Your donation makes all the difference
We invite you to support the acquisition of Agnes Goodsir’s The blue hat (Le chapeau bleu) c1920 for the Art Gallery's collection.
Agnes Goodsir was a queer icon and artistic pioneer whose work featured prominently in our recent popular exhibition, Dangerously Modern: Australian Women Artists in Europe 1890–1940
Goodsir transformed her intimate domestic world into a powerful stage for modern female independence and queer visibility. Her signature style is beautifully immortalised in the masterpiece The blue hat, capturing Rachel ‘Cherry’ Dunn, her partner and muse, as a liberated woman confidently redefining the societal rules of her era.
Bringing this artwork into the Art Gallery ensures a crucial chapter of Australian history is preserved for future generations.
